A YEAR TO THE GENERAL ELECTION

A YEAR TO THE GENERAL ELECTION

A year today, on 7th May 2015, we will be fighting for the future of Worcester and our country. That’s no exaggeration. There will be a stark choice between a Tory Party looking back, sticking up for the vested interests of a privileged few, and a forward-looking Labour Party, tackling the issues that matter to people in their day to day lives and looking to the long-term future of our country.

Ed Miliband is putting in place the policy building blocks of the fairer and more equal society we all want to see. Freezing energy prices and tacking the Big Six; building 200,000 new affordable homes each year to 2020; rent caps and three year tenancies in the private rented sector; ending the Bedroom Tax; repealing the Health and Social Care Act to save the NHS; integrated heath and social care; keeping NHS Walk-In Health Centres open; 25 hours free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds; ending zero hours contracts; strengthening the minimum wage and looking for ways to encourage the Living Wage; a job guarantee for unemployed young people; freezing then reducing business rates; a 10p starting rate of tax.

September Conference will see many more policy announcements and we can expect some radical plans for our railways, on tuition fees and education.

But this is a general election that will be won on the doorstep, listening to what people are telling us, explaining Labour’s position and how we will address their concerns. People need to know who we are, if they can trust us so soon after giving us such a drubbing in the polls in 2010.

That’s why the elections on 22nd May are so important. They are a great opportunity to talk to thousands of Worcester residents, to take Labour’s message to them and show them we are on their side.

If you can help in any way – leaflet delivery, door knocking, envelope stuffing, displaying a poster, telephoning, helping on election day, donating – please let me know.

Together we can do this.

Thank you,
Joy
