Parking Review 2011

When Labour’s Lynn Denham stood as a candidate in Cathedral ward in May’s city council elections, shequickly discovered that residents’ top priority for action was parking. With so many parts of  Cathedral ward adjacent to Worcester city centre, workers and shoppers parking all day in residential areas really blights the lives of people living there. When Lynn heard about the city council’s Scrutiny review of parking in residential areas, she was determined to make sure that residents in Cathedral ward were able to have their say on the issue. She devised an online survey and also made a formal submission to the Scrutiny review panel.

Lynn Denham, Labour's local organiser for Cathedral Ward, also undertook an audit of City Council car park spaces in August and September 2011. She found over 900 empty spaces.  Lynn asked the City Council to take a fresh look at the problem of parking on residential streets. 'The needs of residents, commuters and visitors must be balanced in a fair and equitable way.  This would improve both quality of life in the city and councils’ incomes.'
