Tories furious over parking survey! |

Tory councillors are furious about our residents' parking survey and have accused Labour councillors of providing false hope to Worcester residents. They said the issue was nothing to do with the city council and that people with parking problems should talk to their county councillor. At the recent Scrutiny Committee meeting, city councillors were given copies of the county council's "one size fits all" county wide residents parking policy, which seems designed to prevent most parking schemes from happening. That’s not good enough for Worcester! After all, people from all over Worcestershire (and beyond) drive here and park on our residential streets rather than pay to use off-street car parks with plenty of spaces. Worcester residents do not cause misery on anything like the same scale in Malvern, Pershore, Droitwich etc. The county council have done very little to address Worcester's acute on-street parking problems and some county councillors show no interest whatsoever. You might think that Tory city cabinet members, including finance portfolio holder Marc Bayliss, would be concerned about the enormous loss of income to the city - their car parks in Cathedral ward could be earning several hundred pounds more every daytime hour if non-residents' cars were filling the empty spaces instead of parking free on our streets. But sadly they just don't get it.
