Message from Worcester Labour Youth Officer..

Hi All,

Exciting times in Worcester Labour Party! You may already know that we have selected our shortlist of candidates as our potential Parliamentary candidate for the general election in 2015. Members who have been in the party for at least 6 months at the time of the hustings on 19th November 2011 will be able to vote for their preferred choice. I know whoever we select, we will be right behind her to topple Tory MP Robin Walker's majority of under 3,000 votes. Check out our new revamped website for more info at www.worcesterlabour.org.uk and check out our Facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/worcesterlabour

In other news.... I have been selected to stand as candidate in the City Council elections in May next year. I will be standing in St Clement's ward, which is where the main University campus is and I hope to get the support of local residents and students a like. I am urging students to register to vote in Worcester rather than their home towns, as we can win the ward with the backing of you and other young people in the area. If you need help registering to vote give me a shout and I can make sure the appropriate forms are forwarded to you.

I will be standing against Tory Cllr Simon Geraghty who is the Leader of the council, so if we could oust him this would not only send shock waves through the local Tory administration but would send a national message to the ConDems. We face a challenge from would be 'protest' parties in the ward, like the Greens and to some extent the LibDems who eat away at our progressive centre left vote. We need to win these votes over to topple the Tories. I would like to ask for your support in helping us achieve this, there was just 154 votes in it this year. We have to start early and I have a campaign session planned for Saturday 5th November, 11am to 1pm and need your help, then I think a couple of cheeky afternoon pints in the Wheatsheaf will be in order.

I am currently putting together a newsletter, primarily for the students in the Uni, so any help on this would be great, we are also looking for budding film makers to help us with some campaign videos, not just in my ward but in other key seats throughout the city and to help promote our new Parliamentary candidate - whoever she will be.

Social - on Thursday 27th October at the Firefly, Lowesmoor 7:30pm. It would be great to get together have a few drinks share some ideas and have some fun!. There's plenty going on and plenty still to do, so keep the ideas coming in. I would like to make socials a regular event.

So please get in touch - We need as many people involved if we are to make this happen. I know we'll have a lot of fun along the way and we can win it!

I really look forward to hearing from you soon and I look forward to meeting you too.

Cheers Rich.
